How To Change Your Home Page in Internet Explorer

The page that you see when you first open Internet Explorer is called your "home page". This page can be changed to any internet page you want.

If there's a web page you visit often, you can make it your home page (saving you the time of going to it).

Some times, your home page is changed without your permission (either by web sites you visit, or software you install). In most cases, you can easily change your home page back by following the steps below.

Steps for Internet Explorer 7 (IE7):

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Go to the web page you would like to use as your home page
  3. Click the down arrow next to the Home Icon and then click the Add or Change Home Page link.

  1. When you see the window shown below, check the box that reads, "Use this web page as your only home page" and click the YES button.

If you wanted more than one home page, you could select the second option in the window above. If you do have more than one home page configured, then each page will appear in a different tab when you open Internet Explorer 7.

But most people only want home page.

You can remove extra home pages by following steps 1-4 above. Although note in step, 4 the window will now have an extra option (but you would still select "Use this web page as your only home page".

Steps for Internet Explorer 6 (and earlier versions):

  1. Open Internet Explorer
  2. Go to the web page you'd like to use as your home page
  3. On the menu, select TOOLS and then INTERNET OPTIONS (a new window opens)
  4. On the GENERAL Tab, click the USE CURRENT button and then click the OK button.
